Over 200 Cadets attended the two day 2015 Cadet Biathlon Northern Ontario Area Competition at the Algoma Rod & Gun club this past Saturday and Sunday. A biathlon is a sporting event that involves cross country skiing as well as shooting. The shooting is especially difficult because of the elevated heart rate from skiing.
Sea, Army and Air Cadets is for young men or women between the age of 12 and 18 who are legal residents of Canada. Information on the program can be found at the Canadian Cadet Organizations website.
This first of two events at our club was very successful with a great attendance, snow (although a little sticky) and a great turnout of volunteers. The club provided the facilities and a great couple of meals spearheaded by Pat Stokes. Pat, Dave and a number of other club volunteers have been planning and preparing the meals since the beginning of the month and the resulting turkey pot pies, pasta, meat balls and desserts were welcomed by all cadets, officers and volunteers.
SooToday also wrote a very good human interest story on the event and is well worth looking up.
The second event at our club is to be held on February 13th and 14th and we look forward to the same support from our membership.
We would also like to thank Sault Search and Rescue for volunteering their services and also to Neil MacEwan and Herb Sherer for taking the following pictures and Video
