The club held its first winter family fun fun day on Sunday, February 25th with a buddy trap shoot, snow machine rides, shooting experiences, archery and the unveiling of the club’s new “fire ring”. We had plenty of volunteers, good food, great winter weather and plenty of ammo available for those who attended. Unfortunately, attendance was abysmal. Those organizing are left scratching their heads as to why out of almost 200 members only 7 people paid the $10 to attend. Was it poor timing, lack of advertising or are we no longer viewed as a club but instead a facility? A facility where we just pay our money to get use of the facilities much like you would at Fit for Life and are not looking for fellowship or responsibilities. This is not the first club event that has failed to generate interest. Even our monthly meetings rarely achieve the required 15% quorum requirements. This does warrant some soul searching on behalf of the club.
For those who did participate they had a great experience. The buddy shoot was a lot of fun with more than one team shooting an already shot bird and negating a hit. Mark and Barry took bragging rights with a 19 the first round and a 24 in the second. The chili was deemed the best they ever tasted by one volunteer and quite a few hotdogs disappeared. There were also a number of marshmallows cooked in the fire ring which made its debut performance. Andreane Fraser was on hand to take some pictures which are included in the gallery below. Thanks to all who attended and volunteered and I look forward to comments on how this could be more successful if attempted again.
