I received some good feedback on my suggestions for training and it has become clear that we have to try to accommodate a number of different interests. There are those who are new to action shooting who have to be provided information so that they know what the rules are, what equipment is required and to provide basic training so they can participate safely. We also have to accommodate those who have the skills and want to come out and have fun shooting. And then there are those who want to take things a little more seriously and are looking to take their skills to the next level. So here is what I am proposing:
Our first get together in the calendar is Monday, April 20th. It is highly unlikely that the ranges will be clear of snow by that date (although if every day was like today …) On that Monday, we will provide an introductory course to action shooting to those who are interested and yet are new to the section. We will discuss equipment, training, rules, events and some of the basics. It will be in-class type training with nothing happening on the range.
Monday’s going forward will be practice sessions on the range unless rained out. For the people new to the sport the training will focus on use of a holster, shooting while moving and the basics concentrating on safely and accurately shooting a course of fire. We will have a second course of fire for those who don’t need this training and it will be shooting scenarios with a drill built into the cof to improve skills. Very quickly the two streams will merge and will have to adapt the training as new people become interested.
Thanks again for all your input and I look forward to shooting very soon.
